I have fought my weight my entire life. I started my first diet while in the 3 rd grade. I must say that I have been on a diet for about 14 straight years. I have gained and lost 50+ pounds about 5 times. During my 20's I managed to stay around 180 pounds, swearing that I would never cross 200. Well, the year between my 29 th and 30 th birthday, I gained 50 more pounds and maintained my weight around 236 pounds for the next two years. I had long quit socializing with people and isolated myself out of shame for the next two years. I would just come home, sit on the couch, watch TV, and eat. That was it, that was my life.

Then, on my 31 st birthday, I was at home, alone of course, and sat down on the floor to pick out a movie while waiting on my pizza to arrive, and for the first time in my life I could NOT sit Indian style. The bulge in my abdomen had gotten so big, that it would not allow me to cross my legs in that way. Even though I was there alone, I was embarrassed, ashamed, and realized right then that I had to make a change, or die.

So, I found Dr. Jayaseelan and the Texas Lap-Band Center , had the surgery, and in just under a year have lost 130 pounds, and have a whole new life. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. One thousand times over. It is the single best decision I have ever made for myself. I have more confidence, pride, and energy than I ever dreamed of. It is not that I became a new person, I just finally, thanks to the lapband, Texas Lap-Band Center, and Dr. Jayaseelan, found the real me.

Before I had the Lap-Band procedure, I was frustrated and had given up on losing weight. I felt as if I had tried every possible alternative to weight loss and failed. Then I heard about the Lap-Band and in a year and a half, I reached my goal weight. Now, it’s been three years since my surgery and I feel great. I am full after eating a much smaller serving of food. I feel that this is one of the best decisions that I could have ever made for myself.

Hi there. My name is Jacqui Shallies and the Lap band has unquestionably, saved my life. I was banded July 24, 2003 and to date, I have lost 172 pounds. I have always struggled with my weight my whole life. When I was a child, it was easier to control, because I was in sports and a lot more active, however, when the weight started to show, I backed away from social things. I love to eat, but my eating got way out of control. I would come home from school crying all the time because of the other kids comments and I found comfort in more food, resulting in me just getting larger.

In junior high school I was 170 pounds, by the time I hit high school, I had crossed that 200 pound mark and just continued to gain. I did join Jenny Craig and lost 75 pounds, however, I gained all that back plus a whole lot more. Senior year, I hit 275 pounds. I tried to diet, but nothing ever worked. My weight stopped me from experiencing all the things a girl my age should have experienced. I never went out on dates, never went to high school parties, and I didn't have a whole lot of friends. I was very self conscious and my self-esteem was nonexistent. I was embarrassed to go anywhere and I felt like I was embarrassing the people I was with when I was out. I had my first real boyfriend at 22, after that failed I started to put more weight on and I went over the 300 pound mark. I was depressed and angry all the time. My own family didn't know what they could say to me at any time because I would just snap at them. My doctor had me on Zoloft to soften my moods. At 23, I came to the realization that if I didn't do anything now, I would be miserable and most likely alone for the rest of my life. I didn't want to end up that way. My mom actually heard about the Lap Band procedure first, then I heard some stories about it on the Kidd Kraddick morning show. Me and my mother had also discussed and gastric by-pass procedure, but that scared me to much. It was just to invasive for me. We went to a seminar about the Lap Band, and we were immediately sold. Dr. Jay actually spoke at that seminar and answered all our questions. At 24, I had the procedure, and since then I have become a whole new person.

I lost about 40 pounds right off the bat, but then went through a period of about 6 to 8 months when I didn't loose anything. I had found a loop hole, drinking while eating. That was the hardest habit to break. I got past it though, and since then the weight has fallen off.

I felt my self confidence go up all of a sudden. I was going to bars and clubs and didn't have the feeling everyone was staring at me. I started to date, and I became so much more active in my social life. I finally had one! I went back to school and got my associates degree in interior design. People don't even recognize me anymore. I have not had my drivers license changed yet, and when I do go to bars and things like that, I usually have a problem getting in because the door guy doesn't believe it's me in the picture. I am 27 now and about 147 pounds. I have been in a relationship for over 8 months now, something I have never done before. I am happy and I am no longer that angry bitter girl I use to be. This band saved my life. I would do it over and over again if I had to.

Hi, my name is Tina Johnson. The first time I heard about the Lap Band was on a local radio station when they were giving away two surgeries. When I heard the details of what the surgery consisted of, I immediately entered the contest. Of course, I didn’t win, but I didn’t give up either. As a couple of years passed by, I heard more and more about Lap Band and knew it was my answer for losing the extra pounds. Finally, I decided to go to several seminars at different hospitals and came to the conclusion that I wanted Dr. Jayaseelan to be my surgeon.

After finding out that my insurance wouldn’t pay, I still didn’t give up. I then applied for a medical loan (on line) and within 2 hours was approved. Over the years I have paid lots of money for diet centers, and tried all kinds of diets, but none have worked as well as the Lap Band. Although I try to make healthier choices, I still pretty much eat what I want, so I get the taste and the fullness and then I am done. Food is no longer the main priority in my life and that is what I have needed and accomplished with the Lap Band.

The surgery took less than an hour and I was at my Christmas Party the next evening. I have to say the only problem or pain that I had from the surgery was gas pains that I had in my left shoulder and that is it. Would I do it over again, heck yeah!!! And I wish I had done it 20 years ago.

I do exercise 3 days a week with Leslie Sansone’s tapes “Walk Away The Pounds”. This may not be the best exercise… but I know it has helped and it is right here in my own home! I don’t think the Lap Band is for everyone, but if you are a “heavy” eater, then it is the best way out. I have seen such great results on lots of people including myself!! The compliments I get and being treated differently by the public is totally awesome. After 27 years of marriage, my husband doesn’t say, but I think after losing nearly 100 lbs, he feels like he is with a completely different woman (or at least half the woman he used to have). Thanks to Dr. Jay for changing my life.

Two years ago when I decided to have the lap band done I had reached the highest weight at 298 and largest size (24/26) of my life but at age 56 I was afraid I was too old to do anything. I met with Dr. Jay about 4 weeks before my surgery and from then on I couldn’t wait to have it done. The surgery was easy and ice chips and popsicles worked great as well as other liquids for the first week. I grew to love queso and chips and potato soup for the soft foods and gradually my menu included everything else. I knew that this lap band was going to be the best thing I had done for my self in many years.

Now I am able to go into any store and buy clothes right off the rack. I don’t have to dig for the largest size anymore a twelve fits just fine in fact a twelve tall looks even better. I love to buy current styles and even wear things like my 18 year old granddaughter wears and some of them look good on me too. I feel better than I have in years. My diabetes in completely under control, my blood pressure runs around 120/78 and my doctor cut my cholesterol medicine in half. What more could you ask for.

Thanks Dr. Jay for changing my entire life. I love coming in every two months just to make sure my weight is stable and I am doing my part to stay there.

I have been overweight since I had my first child at 18 years of age. Over the years I’ve tried every diet imaginable, as well as diet pills and weight loss clinics. However, none of these worked for me. In December of 2003, I read about Dr. Jay and the Lap Band Procedure for weight loss in The Dallas Morning News. My sons and I read all we could about the procedure and decided that I should take this route in order to lose weight.

At that time I could hardly walk because of pain in my legs due to severe swelling. My blood pressure and cholesterol were extremely high. I felt sluggish and was unable to do my housework or enjoy any type of recreation. I could not play with my grandchildren, which was a big disappointment for both them and me. In other words, I was so “fat” I could hardly move around.

Since I had my surgery in March 2004 and was banded in July 2004 I have become a “new” person. My medical Doctor is confident that if I lose 10 more pounds I will probably be able to discontinue my medications.

I have so much energy now and can do all the things I could not do before. I recently went parasailing over the ocean in Destin, Florida. I went up and down the mountains in Western Canada like a Mountain Goat, and over the mountain at Angel Fire, New Mexico in a hot air balloon.

I’ve had a great time these last two years and I owe it all to Dr. Jay and the Lap Band Procedure. Thanks, Dr. Jay!! You are My Hero.

Hi, my name is Cheryl Wilcox and Dr. Jayaseelan banded me on September 17, 2003 - two days after my birthday. The best gift I ever received. I had done quite a bit of research(online, seminars, consult with another doctor) prior to calling Dr. J's office, and once I did call, things went smoothly. Dr. J's office dealt with the insurance company, and they simply called and let me know what I needed to do next.

I started a journal when the "liquid diet" started 7 days prior to surgery. I think it is important, even if you just use a calendar, to record your weight at whatever intervals you want and I highly recommend measuring yourself. The inches that have come off have been as shocking as the pounds. The smallest I had ever been as an adult was a size 12, imagine my surprise when 10s fit consistently and recently I tried an 8 for fun and it fit.

There are two things I have lost that I hope I never find again: 85.5 pounds and 48.75 inches. Walking is my exercise of choice. I have many routes, varied in length and I know it is something I will continue to do. Scars? Even I have a hard time finding them!

I love the compliments and have even had friends ask for my doctor's name and number for people they know who have been thinking about lap-band surgery. People know that I am not ashamed of having had this surgery and I gladly share my love of the band.

I heard about lapband surgery from a friend. I was kind of nervous about surgery. I knew I needed to do something to get the weight off. I have been overweight since my first child and could never get the weight off. I've tried everything possible. Within the last four years , I've had foot surgery ,back problems, and no energy to keep up with three kids. So, I made the call to Dr. Jayaseelan and it was the right decision. Dr. Jayaseelan and his staff are the best.
